Incorporated
in 1970, Dykeview Farms Ltd. originated from the family farm on Church Street,
Port Williams, Nova
Scotia. Earl, Bobby and Neil Kidston are the fifth
farming generation on this farm. Originally a 200 acre farm that
primarily grew potatoes, grains, forage and beef cattle, Dykeview has gone
through several phases of growth and crop changes. In 1976, Dykeview stopped
growing tobacco, and added beans and peas to the crop mixture. A hog finisher
enterprise was started with the purchase of 400 hogs from their father, Robie Kidston, grew to the 7000. The hog operation was
discontinued in 2006.
In 1985,
anticipating that the market would sustain future growth of the existing
marketed produce plus new types of fresh produce, Dykeview Farms
strategically formed Nova Agri Inc. as its marketing arm. Nova Agri could focus its attention on their
customers, while marketing the produce of Dykeview and other local farms.
By the 90's Dykeview exceeded 1,200 acres and the company moved out of beef
production to put more emphasis on produce, with onions and blueberries being
added to the produce mix.
Today, Dykeview farms more than 2,000 acres and rents additional acreage to
extend production as needed. The primary export crops grown are potatoes,
onions and blueberries with peas and grains as rotation crops.
We are proud to be
farming in Nova Scotia
and would not be where we are today without our large employee base.
Through the marketing efforts of Nova Agri, Dykeview Farms products are
enjoyed in many countries of the world and we have garnered a reputation for
quality and service.
